SMA is an award-winning career development and mentorship platform focused on preparing South African law students and graduates for successful entry into the legal profession.
SMA was established in response to a clear and persistent gap between academic legal education and the realities of the legal job market. While many students graduate with strong theoretical knowledge, they often lack the strategic guidance, professional exposure, and confidence required to navigate recruitment processes for vacation work, articles of clerkship, and early-career legal roles. SMA exists to bridge that gap.
We work with law students and graduates across South Africa, providing structured support that helps them move from uncertainty to clarity, and from qualification to opportunity. Our approach is practical, intentional, and grounded in a deep understanding of how the legal profession operates.

The SMA Membership Club is a low-commitment monthly offering for law students and graduates who want access to career conversations and guidance as they navigate the legal profession.
The Membership Club is intentionally simple. It is designed to create a consistent space for discussion, reflection, and learning, without the structure or intensity of a full programme

Question 1: How long does the Graduate Accelerator Programme last?
The Graduate Accelerator Program is a once-off programme, not a recurring subscription. Once enrolled, students and graduates receive ongoing support until they secure articles of clerkship.
GAP is designed to support candidates through preparation, applications, and recruitment processes over time, recognising that securing articles is not always immediate and may vary depending on individual circumstances.
Question 2: Do I need to be a final-year student or Graduate to join SMA?
No. SMA supports students at various stages of their legal studies, as well as graduates. The appropriate service or programme will depend on your current stage and career goals.
Question 3: What is the difference between the Graduate Accelerator Program and the Membership Club?
The Graduate Accelerator Program is a structured, intensive programme offering comprehensive career preparation and ongoing support.
The Membership Club is a lighter-touch offering that provides access to two live group sessions per month and general career guidance, without full programme access or individualized support.
Question 4: Can I access SMA services without joining a programme?
Yes. SMA offers once-off career services, including CV drafting, cover letter drafting, mock interviews, and bundled career support packages. These services can be accessed independently of GAP or the Membership Club.
Question 5 : Are SMA services available online?
Yes. SMA services, programmes, and consultations are offered virtually, allowing students and graduates across South Africa to participate.
Question 6 : Does SMA guarantee placement or employment?
SMA does not guarantee placement or employment. Candidates are still required to apply, attend interviews, and complete any psychometric assessments or recruitment processes required by law firms or employers.
SMA does not participate in interviews or assessments on behalf of candidates. Our role is to prepare and support students and graduates so that they are able to approach these processes confidently, professionally, and independently.
Question 7 : How do I know which service is right for me?
If you are unsure which option best suits your needs, you are encouraged to book a discovery call. This allows us to understand your situation and recommend the most appropriate pathway.
Question 8 : Can employers or recruitment partners work with SMA?
Yes. SMA collaborates with law firms, corporates, and recruitment partners to support talent sourcing, graduate readiness, and learning and development initiatives.
Question 9 : How do I book a discovery call?
Discovery calls can be booked directly through the booking system available on the Book A Call page. Once booked, you will receive a confirmation with further details.
